 “You are the butterfly”, she told me.
“You have been deep in the molten goo of transformation.” “I’ve never felt more alone”, I said. “It’s darkest before the dawn”, she replied. My butterfly is injured and is left here to die. I am the Burdened Butterfly and I am dying. My tears and grief and remains are fortifying the darkness. “You can’t rush out of here”, she said. “But it’s terrifying”, I replied, with more tears flowing and unraveling the burdens. Gently and intentionally. My brain is screaming but my tears know the way. I am the Brave Butterfly and I am forming in the goo. I am emerging slowly and intentionally from the fertile remnants of the unwound burdens. I cannot be rushed. I try with all my human might to force the process. “There’s no time!”, I yell. My Butterfly cannot be rushed. I must fully let myself die, fears screaming in my ear. I must surrender without knowing the way. And yet a part of me knows the way. Deep in the wisdom of my cells. This process is as old as time- death and rebirth. My Burdened Butterfly thought she had to do it all on her own. The weight of it crushed her wings. She thought she could only be beautiful through the eyes of others. My Brave Butterfly knows she is both beautiful and repellent. Her unique colors and patterns and taste are potent medicine and inspiration to some and offensive to others. But she is Brave. She has been in the dark, not knowing. She has transformed. She has emerged, pristine and powerful. Her beauty is not for everyone. But it’s divinely perfect and needed. “I am the Butterfly”, I said.
